Introduction
In the battle to save the planet, humans have come up with some pretty brilliant things. Electric cars, solar and wind energy, and making new products out of old ones. That’s why I’m so excited to try Reel 100% Recycled Paper Towels. Recycling paper products is a huge step to reducing deforestation and slowing climate change. Reel is leading the world in sustainable paper products with their paper towels and also a line of Bamboo Toilet Paper and Tissues.
The Importance of Using Recycled Paper Towels
This importance cannot be overstated, especially as the world faces a growing need for sustainable and eco-friendly solutions to reduce our impact on the environment. Traditional paper towels are typically made from virgin tree pulp, basically ground up trees which have been recently cut down. This contributes greatly to deforestation and habitat loss for thousands of species. Take for instance, the Amazon Rainforest. The deforestation has increased rapidly with an area the size of New York City recently being cut down most recently. Trees, especially in the Amazon, help regulate climate and produce oxygen. This would be like cutting out your lungs to make room for another stomach.
Also, the production process of conventional paper towels often requires significant amounts of water, energy, and chemicals, exacerbating pollution and resource depletion.
Recycled paper towels, on the other hand, are created using post-consumer materials, such as paper collected from offices and schools. This not only extends the lifecycle of discarded paper but also saves thousands of trees. The production process also conserves energy and saves water compared to conventional paper towel manufacturing.
About Reel Paper’s Recycled Paper Towels
Reel paper towels are made from 100% recycled material with a minimum of 80% post-consumable fiber from places like offices and schools and are made in the USA. The packaging also is made from 100% recycled fibers and is plastic free, creating zero waste. The manufacturing process uses a water-based process that doesn’t use any harsh chemicals.
Reel also partners with One Tree Planted which is a non-profit dedicated to planting trees all over the world to combat deforestation. To date, they have planted 52 million trees in 70 countries.

Do They Work Better Than Store Bought Brands?
I was impressed with how thick and soft the paper towels are. They are certainly as absorbent as Brawny or Bounty paper towels.
Compared to other recycled paper towels, they are much more sustainably made. For example, Seventh Generation Recycled Paper towels use only 50% post-consumer material while Reel uses 80%. Seventh Generation also packages their paper towels in plastic (what!?!).
