Introduction
A few weeks ago, one of my clients got me a new toy. It was the BISSELL® CrossWave® All-in-One Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vacuum (Amazon, Check Price). I won’t mention the fact that she sprang this new toy on me right as I was grabbing her old mop to do the floors, or that some assembly was required. Or that I was supposed to leave in 30 minutes. That’s neither here nor there.
So I sat down and opened the box. The assembly was actually pretty easy. You attach the bottle of cleaning solution to the back, snap in the dirty water tank and roller brush and away you go! It took longer to read the directions.
What is the Bissell Crosswave?
The Bissell CrossWave is a vacuum and mop rolled into one. You can literally vacuum and wash your floors at the same time! It’s sort of like a carpet cleaner but it can also clean multiple surfaces like hardwood floors, tile and vinyl. The head of the machine sprays the solution on the floor and then sucks it up while the roller brush picks up the big stuff.

Is the Bissell Crosswave worth the money?
After my first use, I can safely say I am hooked. Doing the floors is my least favorite thing about cleaning houses and the Bissell CrossWave cuts the time and equipment in half.
It also freshens area rugs. You can switch from the hard floor setting to the rug setting with the push of a button. Different roller brush attachments (Amazon, Check Price) are also available for varying surfaces and degrees of impact on the floor.
Can you put eco-friendly cleaning products in the tank?
Bissell sells several formulas for different surfaces, including a multi-surface cleaning solution. For proper performance and to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, use a cleaning formula made for Bissell CrossWave machines.
For cleaning floors without the CrossWave, I sometimes use more natural solutions to clean floors like Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap. Check out this great recipe for natural floor cleaners here. And you will never realize how dirty your floors are until you see what is in the dirty water tank.
There have been some reported problems with it, like the rubber ring on the solution bottle wearing out and leaking, but it comes with a two-year warranty and most parts that may wear out are replaceable. All in all, I am really enjoying using it and I wish I had one for my house. Maybe my clients can pool their money together and get this Cleaning Lady a well-deserved Christmas present.
